Greetings Baker Band Families!

Today in class, we took some time to show students the Weekly Practice Journals. These journals will be maintained and turned in via a Google Form within their band google classroom. The Weekly Practice Journals are due on Monday’s. The google form will not begin accepting responses until the Sunday prior.

Practice Journals are weighted as 30% of their overall grade in band. Developing and committing to good practice habits is vital to your child’s success in music. Encourage your child to practice, help them enjoy getting better, and earn that confidence that comes with progress.

  • These Weekly Practice Journals are an important part of their grade band
  • But moreso, practicing at home is the key to success and enjoyment in music
  • Students with internet at home will be expected to complete the Google Form
  • The Google Form will be located with their band Google Classroom
  • Students who do not have internet access at home will turn in a paper copy
  • Your child should know how to log into their school google account using their school email

Parents, this document is rather helpful in your approach at home.

5th Grade Band:

A practice session should be 10 – 15 minutes long. Set a timer.

You should focus on one or two songs.

Don’t know what to work on? Practice what we worked on in class that day or something that Mr. Leedy told you to focus on specifically.

Don’t goof off and make silly sounds. That won’t make you better.

Sit with good posture and hand position. Use a wire music stand if possible.

Your goal is practice a total of 40 minutes each week at home over the course of seven days.

It is better to practice for 10 minutes on 4 different days, than to practice 40 minutes on one day.

Let’s say it again: It is better to practice for 10 minutes on 4 different days, than to practice 40 minutes on one day.
